December Happenings

Hello again! Just droppin a line to let everyone know what is going on and how God is working throughout Morehead City and the surrounding areas. This week, we were able to complete the first stage of the kitchen rebuild at Family Promise! Praise God for his provision, energy, and wisdom to keep us from screwing it up. Another church is stepping in to do all the caulking and painting and then we will be getting back at it throwing down some flooring. Just this past week One Harbor hosted the families from Family Promise for the week. From everyone involved, it was a truly blessed time to humbly serve and just chill out and fellowship. Ain't much better than that. It was really a humble reminder that holes in sheetrock or cooking dinner isn't what really matters, but Christ's love manifested in a tiny tiny way through it. Because He is good!

Diggin Holes! Perfect Saturday!

This weekend a handful of guys and gals got together to dig some post holes! It was awesome. We had the great opportunity to serve Marcus and his family by helping  build a fence for his backyard. It was so cool to come alongside him to serve and share the Gospel through outward service and prayer. His family was raised tough and is tough with he and his wife both being Marines. They were astounded at the fact that 8 random people from some church would come help build a fence for them. The reality of it is still sinking in as we told them that it is Christ through us. Please pray Marcus and his family can realize that it isn't nice people doing nice things, but Christ on a cross dying and rising again for them!

If you haven't heard, a group of motivators from One Harbor have begun doing weekly cookouts at Pelican Point every Sunday. Straight money. Walking around, knockin on random doors and inviting people out to break bread together. No strings attached, just Christ's love as motivation. This was my first time, but Patrick was telling us how people are beginning to open up and ask why in the world are you here? BOOM! Right there, Jesus. Patrick introduced me to Miss Lindy who is in dire need of some floor repairs and plumbing help. We will be going back there in two weekends to check it out and hopefully be able to bless Miss Lindy. Please pray for her and her daughter Tatyana who just got baptized at One Harbor. Praise God!

A couple of us will be leaving this weekend to serve alongside some brothers and sisters doing construction in New Orleans, LA. Please pray for God to grow us closer to Him through this trip and that when we return we continue to use the gifts and passions God has given us to serve Him and His people here in Morehead City. And that God continually makes us feel awkward and inadequate so we step outside ourselves and let Him be in control.

Quick Updates

Miss Debbie's Front Yard and Path!
Just wanted to take a quick minute to update you all on the happenings the past week or so. A medium-sized group was able to go back to Miss Debbie's last weekend to finish the grunt work of the yard cleanup (everyone says small or large group, but never in the middle, now I know why, there is no good way to say it). We still have a significant amount of debris to haul away, so pray for helping hands to assist taking it all to the dump. It was a huge blessing to see the physical progress, but more importantly we can't wait to spend more time with Miss Debbie to build relationship based on Christ's love for her. Please lift her up as she is working and going back to school to get her GED. Let Christ be revealed in real ways in her life and move her to know Him!

Kitchen at Family Promise
We are still pushing forward with the Family Promise Kitchen rebuild/repair. Just last week, the plumber put some unexpected holes in the wall pushing the timeline back, but it ain't no thang! Hopefully within the month sheetrock, painting and trim will be complete and the ministry will have a fully functional kitchen to help teach basic cooking skills to young mothers! Continue to lift up this ministry and our work there, so that God can be glorified through parents and children seeing His love played out in real ways.

More of the Kitchen!
Please pray that we can seek to be more like Nehemiah and the Israelites back in the day. The work we do is truly for nothing if all of our heart, mind, and soul are not focused on Christ. Pray that we are convicted and challenged daily by the love of Christ!

"So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart." Nehemiah 4:6

Isaiah 6:8 "Whom shall I send, who will go for us?"

God has truly been blessing the crisis response ministry the past few weeks with the opportunity to serve our neighbors and hopefully share that small glimpse of Christ's love through  physical service and testimony. Take a second and please read and continue to pray about the homeowners we have been able to witness to recently.
Bryce wreckin some trees!
Three weeks ago a trio of misfits from One Harbor spent a day up in Greenville, NC cutting up trees that were hanging over three homes and laying on the properties of Mr. White, Mr Jewell, and Summer Moore's Children Center. These trees were a huge physical burden to our neighbors, and Christ set it up so we could go out a help them a little bit. Each person had a different reaction, but it was perfectly clear that the reason we were there was not of ourselves, but an outpouring of Christ's love for them personally. In the picture to the left is Bryce, a high school senior from Newport. He has been helping us recently as a part of his senior project and it has been a great opportunity to witness to him and hopefully provide insight into Christ and His love through past and present testimony. Please pray for him to know Christ.

Small Part of the Crew w/ Miss Debbie (3rd from the right)
This weekend, a crew from the Kincer homegroup spent Sunday afternoon cleaning up Miss Debbie's yard. The yard had been in disarray for awhile and Miss Debbie did not have the means physically or financially to do the work. We had the priviledge of spending the day working, grilling out, and loving on Miss Debbie. Please pray she can experience Christ's love in a real way, from God Himself.

Doin work at Miss Debbie's House
We are continuing renovation on the kitchen as Family Promise shelter for women and children every Saturday. Please pray for strength and wisdom in that project and please lift up the ministry there as they touch the lives of countless people daily. Please read and pray for us as we strive to somehow live out what Lecrae talks about in the lyrics below.

I Seen it wit my own two
Theres no way I can show you
A perfectly poverty stricken people with no view
And I bet you can't believe this
They never heard of Jesus

Send Me, I'll Go
Send Me, I'll Go
Send Me, I'll Go
Let Me Go, Let Me Go

Christ's Cross in Morehead City

"For  it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. For we God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Ephesians 2:8

Praise God! He has truly blessed the past few weeks by putting the right people in the right places to bring the Gospel to our neighbors. A few weeks ago we were able to serve a family down east with no insurance, whose home had been flooded during Hurricane Irene. A small group gutted out the house and poured love out upon the homeowners, not our love, but a small glimpse of the love of Christ offers to all men and women through the Cross. God arranged for helpers, materials, and funds to come together in His perfect timing to provide physical needs for this family and in turn love on them a little bit. They were blown away by the love Christ was showing them through the church. Mold treatment is being done and we are planning efforts to help rebuild the interior of the house that had to be removed. What truly awesome opportunity it was and is.

Yesterday, after a couple weeks of trying God linked us up with Miss Debbie who was in need of help clearing some limbs from her yard after the storm. While talking with her, she broke down in tears, stunned that someone would help her in such a real way. In reality, the limbs were not very large, but were a huge burden to her because she is physically unable to deal with the problem. So in our eyes a small problem and a small outpouring of love was immensely important to her. What she soon realized, was that we did not do it just to help her, but becasue Jesus loves her and we are called to share that with her in whatever way possible. We were able to pray with her and talk with her about Christ's love and grace how that is the reason we do all we do. She is still in great need for more clean up and repairs on her home and we are in the process of planning further ministry at her home. Pray that God works in this situation to reveal His plan for Miss Debbie and our lives that are all now tied together through Christ's love.

God is moving through Morehead City and He powerfully and lovingly claims it as His own. We are not the reason for this, but we are called and commanded to be a part of glorifying God here. Please pray that we continue to pursue His calling and that we view our friends and neighbors in Morehead City through the lense of Christ's Cross and that He is made known here in a real and tangible way.

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." James 1:22

Divine Appointments!

Hope this post finds you all well! We have begun the baby steps in God's work through home repair and tree removal following Hurricane Irene. God has blessed us with the first of hopefully many divine appointments to meet the needs of our friends and neighbors and spread His love through this small offering of service. The past week a few of us had the awesome opportunity to witness to two families. We able to remove trees from two homeowners houses that had been laying on structures for almost 3 weeks and prevent further damage to neighboring properties. It was so great to get to meet and talk with those families and the community as we worked. God truly blessed our time as we were able to share just a tiny glimpse of Christ's love to our new friends through service and prayer!
